There is ample evidence that demonstrates the multiple pandemics of Covid-19, racism, and economic displacement occurring over the last 16 months have had the greatest negative impact upon the health and well-being of Black and brown youth, families and communities, especially those who are living at the socio-economic and pollical margins of our country. This reality has only deepened the decades of disparities in access to education & afterschool, quality healthcare, economic security, etc., that existed prior to 2020. And Cambridge Black and brown youth and families are far from being immune to living with these same disparities.

Professor McDowell poses the question to our Cambridge OST Community, “Are we implicated in the exclusion of those we serve? “ It’s all about Voice, he says. Do these youth and families have real voice to lift up their lived experiences in shaping and partnering with our OST Community in our programming, quality, and defining the outcomes we set for young people? In this dialogue, Professor McDowell will challenge us to use this moment as the opportunity to begin shaping a new normal in how we engage our youth and families who are systematically marginalized by society.
