Why is literacy important? According to the data provided in the Cambridge Community Foundations report, Equity and Innovation Cities: The case of Cambridge, we are failing our children. 57% of Black children in 3rd grade are not meeting the benchmark. 57%. What can we do in informal spaces to really connect young people to the joy of reading? What would be possible if all Black children in 3rd grade were soaring above the state benchmark? What would it take to make that happen?
