In our Clubhouse, we will be talking about the role of social media in young people's lives and looking towards the future about how it may shape their perspectives and experiences of the world. We will ask questions about how we talk about social media with youth, when do we start talking to them about it, and why (or why isn't) it important to engage with young people about social media in schools.
Through discussions with other educators, we hope to figure out social media's potential role in education and youth development. We will look at various examples of social media and youth making recent headlines, from the story of Darnella Frazier to the news about Instagram building a platform for kids and MA Attorney General Matha Healey's mission to stop Facebook from doing so.
Social media is an inherent part of our daily lives: As educators and mentors, what do we do to guide our youth through the complexities of such a powerful platform they have access to at any time? Attendees are encouraged to bring their own reading materials and experiences to this discussion, which will be open and free flowing.
